BASF: Our roadmap to a global Sametime 8.5.2 deployment: It works for us, why wouldn't it work for you
BASF is the world's leading chemical company, with about 105,000 employees and close to 385 production sites worldwide.
Until today BASF works with a heterogenous Sametime environment with different Sametime versions brought together in one community. The goal of this roadmap is to come to a homogenous Instant messaging and meeting environment with Sametime 8.5.2 as basis.
This presentation will focus on why on how BASF an IBM together designed a roadmap to come from this heterogenous environment to a homogenous global environment. It will be shown how we came to the architectural design and an implementation plan by first analyzing the functional and nonfunctional requirements.

The Notes/Domino Application Development Competitive Advantage
Competitive Advantage Slideshare
Some organizations are neglecting or under-utilizing one of the greatest IT assets in their portfolio today - the Notes/Domino application platform. Some are even considering re-coding Domino applications in other languages and development tools. In this session we present the business case and technical merits of Notes and Domino in direct comparison to other tools such as Microsoft SharePoint. Based on data collected from real-world engagements we will demonstrate the positive return on investment of the Notes platform. We will also discuss PSC’s “Application Modernization” strategy and how it helps move customers from merely maintaining Notes applications to increasing their value with XPages and advanced collaboration functionality.

Collaborative Project Management 2.0
Collective intelligence is one of the core principles behind the whole idea of the new project management trend.
Project Management 2.0 tools and practices help people to share project information and contribute to the project plan easily. They help gather valuable bottom-up knowledge from emails, disconnected files and spreadsheets into one place.
Anyone on the team, has the up-to-date information at hand. Project operations become more transparent, projects become more controllable and project management more adaptable.

Lessons learned after analyzing a million end users
Over the past years we have analyzed the real end user demand for more than 1 million corporate end users, and how infrastructures of our customers were responding to that user demand.
During this session we will share some important and frequent recurring findings and what effect they have on costly resources, support/operations, end user experience and management bias towards migrating away.
We aim to give you the inspiration and ammunition you’ll need to help your boss make a well informed decision, not to migrate but to optimize, upgrade & innovate the existing platform.
When Plato Left The Cave - A brief history of Lotus Notes
Jump back in time to 1974. In a Harvard dormitory, Bill Gates, future cofounder of Microsoft, is goofing off playing poker and pinball. Over in India, Steve Jobs, future cofounder of Apple, has shaved his head and is wandering around seeking enlightenment. Out in Hawaii, Steve Case, future cofounder and head of AOL Time Warner, is busy writing album reviews for his Honolulu high school newspaper. While these future billionaire CEOs of Internet-industry behemoths are busy enjoying their last teenage years, at a university town in Illinois the 'Net' has already arrived. Indeed: it's in full swing!
In the following years the germ cell of Lotus Notes began to grow and to evolve to the world's leading groupware application.
Follow the timeline from the past to present in the history of Lotus Notes / Domino.

Using ITIL Terms and Definitions we shall break down service delivery and how it relates to your Collaborative System, from Administrators to Management to Customers. From Technical KPI's ( Key Performance Indicators ) to Customer SLA's (Service Level Agreements). Expect lots of Buzz words such as Capacity Management, Availability Management, Demand Management, ... but have them accompanied with practical (Generic and GSX Specific) example to assist in clarifying them.

Using Microsoft Word & Excel with your Lotus Notes applications
Many Lotus Notes developers recognize the importance of Microsoft Word and Excel to compliment their Notes environments and allow improved extraction of data, reporting and analysis. However many have built the integration code into their apps creating a support and maintenance overhead when reporting requirements change or versions of Notes or Office change.
Integra for Notes® and Integra Quick Reports® allow developers and end-users respectively to implement their integration without needing to change the code of their applications while still maintaining a great deal of flexibility.
Users looking to migrate the data from within Lotus Notes applications will also learn some great tips. We will not serve beer, but it will be worth it.

Under the hood of Lotus Notes Clients or How to make your company love Notes again
Why is the Notes client so slow? Why does the Notes Client sometimes open databases from far, far away? Why does it take so long to open one of our databases? What's so important about ODS (and what is ODS anyway)? How does network latency (what's that?) affect my Notes clients? Why does deleting cache.ndk seem to fix problems but then deleting it causes others? Why doesn't Notes love me back (or when did you actually start to not love Notes that much any more)?
This session shares information from almost 20 years of infrastructure analysis and optimization (still relevant today ;-)) in Lotus Notes/Domino environments.

One Directory To Rule Them All? Yes!
You’ve heard buzzwords like single-sign on, single user id, or authentication management, but also heard that they were a nightmare to implement. Or perhaps you always wanted to use another directory - like Active Directory - for your Sametime, Web, IMAP or Traveler password authentication but thought it required a 3rd party tool or something installed on the Domino server? In this session we'll show you how to configure your Domino server to authenticate with either the HTTP Password or the LDAP directory password without a server reboot! We will extend that idea to demonstrate how with a little bit of magic and a sprinkling of Tivoli Directory Integrator you can get closer to that simple single userid or directory system you’ve always wanted.

Using XML and RDBMS as XPage Data Sources
Sample App: BLUGXMLJDBCXPages.zip
In version 8.5.x developers are limited to Domino View and Form designs as data sources for the controls on an XPage. Where in most cases this is not a limiting factor it can be restrictive. What if you could render any XML stream that is accessible via URL and output that data to an XPage using standard XSLT Stylesheets, Table or Data Table controls? The majority of systems today (from RDMS to ERP systems) have the ability to output their data as an XML stream. This session will walk attendees through the process of accessing Domino and Non-Domino based data as XML and rendering that data to XPages controls. Attendees will leave with working examples of how to integrate any XML stream into their XPage designs. In addition what if you could use RDBMS data as an XPage data source without writing a SINGLE LINE of CODE !!! Come to this session to find out how.
